Today (like always) you're going to get the Reader's Digest version of the past 2 months.

Dalen is one year old
His first word was cat (although he still thinks dogs are cats)
He hates playing in the snow

Frank hit a deer (with my brand new car)
$6,500 later, thank God for insurance
Got to try a few different rental cars too

We sold our house (privately!)
It was listed for 3 weeks and we had 3 offers

Our new house will be built by April.

... and about a million other little things...  I have a few minutes before I get to work so I'll fill in a few blanks.

Selling a house privately is a lot of work!  I've been so busy!   Keeping it showable-clean and living in it is the challenge, especially when buyers call about 15 minutes before they want to come see the place.  It's amazing how many hiding spots I found for dirty dishes and laundry.  The trick is finding it all when you're done...
The paperwork and the timing and the hoops you have to go through are enough to make your head spin.  Right now the sale is still conditional on the home inspection, which is scheduled for Monday.  Hopefully it goes well and doesn't take too long.  Sometimes inspections can take 3 hours!!  After it's all signed and finished I'm going to spend the day at a spa to unwind.   And then I'm not going to clean the house until April! haha I wish.

We are super excited about our new home.  It's being custom built and we're having a great time working with our builder on the plans.  He's probably going to kill us if we change our minds any more.  We've probably gone through 2 full bottles of white-out :)  Last night we had to choose our front door, all the knobs, and where the phone/cable jacks would go.  We also had to decide where to put the fireplace.  It ended up in the garage!  That was the only space left.  I'm looking forward to working with the kitchen designer.  That's going to be fun.

Lots to do in the next 3 weeks.  We have to choose our bricks, shingles, flooring, railing, cabinets, knobs, light fixtures, doors, paint, and design our bathrooms (we're going to have a 20 sq. ft. shower!) and design the kitchen.

Oh wow, Christmas is in less than a month.  That just snuck right up on me.  We're spending the holidays in a chalet in the country near Quebec City.  That's a first for me, so I'm very very excited.  Apparently they always have tons of snow.  Should be a blast!  Hopefully the weather behaves so driving is smooth.

and a shout out to my MOM!

Congratulations on your first official japanese pee-in-a-hole-in-the-ground.  A round of applause!

(got an email from mom today about her experiences with public washrooms in Japan. very ... interesting?  one more place i don't want to visit i guess)

I got my new glasses last night!  3 days earlier too.  It's amazing how much my prescription changed.  The doctor the hormones from being pregnant affects your eyesight sometimes.  My friend's eyes got better! Now she's not even wearing glasses. (punk) I'm glad to have a rest from contacts. I was actually getting tired of poking myself in the eyes every morning.

My company landed our first start-to-finish event to plan.  We have lots of time, but lots of ideas, so it will be a busy, but we're excited because we're taking care of all aspects of the event. Very cool.

Well, gotta run off to french lessons.  2 weeks down, many many many to go.

Lots of changes since my last post!  I can't fill in all the blanks yet, but here's some.

Frank is starting a new job in the building next to mine, which means he'll drive me to work every day (yay).  And it means a promotion (big yay).

My boss started language training, which means I am learning French too... 6 hours a day for the next 13 months!  I'm going to be sooo braindead.  Bilingual, but braindead.  Fantastic match.

My parents are in Japan right now.  I just got a note from my mom that they arrived.  What a long flight!  This is my dad's 10th trip this year (my mom's first).  They'll be there for a month, so I have to post lots of pictures of Dalen for them.
This is his new squishy face.  Not sure what it means exactly.  I think he's laughing at us because we have to change his diaper...
001
This is his girlfriend, Carla.
002
Don't you just wanna eat him and his cute little elfy ears!
004

Ok, in other news... We've started house shopping again.  We decided to find something a little bigger, with a much bigger yard.  My mom helped me "stage" my house for selling.  Just some finishing touches to do before we list it.  I finally got some art framed that I've had in storage for 3 years!  (Mom, they turned out nice eh?  Also, I bought the fabric for the shams... haven't made them yet).
006
Hung the smaller ones in the livingroom for now in some existing holes.
005

I got new shoes! (that's big news.) I love them, of course... they're shoes.
007

Gotta go dry up the bathroom.  Dalen just had a bath.  I'm trying to explain that it works better with the water IN the tub... but he just doesn't get it.

003

Yeesh, he needs a haircut again.  Not even a year old and this will be his third trim! Hairy monster.
